Northbound Route 885 Boulevard of the Allies Paving this Weekend in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing milling and paving operations on the northbound (inbound) Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur this weekend, Friday and Saturday, September 13-14 weather permitting.

The Boulevard of the Allies will close in the northbound (inbound) direction in the uptown section between the Birmingham Bridge and the Liberty Bridge/Veterans Bridge ramps from 7 p.m. Friday night continuously through 6 p.m. Saturday. Crews will conduct milling and paving operations. Additionally, the following closures will occur: 

  • The northbound Boulevard of the Allies ramp from the Oakland section to the uptown section

  • The westbound (inbound) I-376 (Parkway East) ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies (Exit 72B)

  • Local roads leading to northbound Boulevard of the Allies including Gist Street, Mitenberger Street, Van Braam Street, and Marion Street

Emergency vehicles will have access to the northbound Boulevard of the Allies and all associated ramps. Additionally, emergency vehicles will be able to access Mercy Hospital from the southbound Boulevard of the Allies at the Marion Street barrier opening. All other traffic will be detoured.

Northbound Boulevard of the Allies to the Liberty Bridge/Downtown Pittsburgh

  • From the Boulevard of the Allies, motorists will take the ramp to West 376 toward Pittsburgh

  • Follow I-376 westbound to Grant Street (Exit 71A) off-ramp (End Detour for Downtown Pittsburgh)

  • From Grant Street, turn right onto the Boulevard of the Allies

  • Take the ramp to 19/51 to Liberty Bridge

  • End Liberty Bridge detour

Northbound Boulevard of the Allies to I-279 (Parkway North)

  • From the Boulevard of the Allies, motorists will take the ramp to West 376 toward Pittsburgh

  • From westbound I-376, take the ramp to North I-279 (Exit 70C) toward Fort Duquesne Bridge/North Shore

  • Cross the Fort Duquesne Bridge

  • Stay right to I-279 (Parkway North)

  • End detour

Westbound I-376 (Parkway East) to Northbound Boulevard of the Allies/Liberty Bridge

  • Continue westbound (inbound) on I-376 past the closed ramp

  • Follow I-376 westbound to Grant Street (Exit 71A) off-ramp (End Detour for Downtown Pittsburgh)

  • From Grant Street, turn right onto the Boulevard of the Allies

  • Take the ramp to 19/51 to Liberty Bridge

  • End Liberty Bridge detour

Westbound I-376 (Parkway East) to Northbound Boulevard of the Allies/I-279 (Parkway North)

  • Continue westbound (inbound) on I-376 past the closed ramp

  • From westbound I-376, take the ramp to North I-279 (Exit 70C) toward Fort Duquesne Bridge/North Shore

  • Cross the Fort Duquesne Bridge

  • Stay right to I-279 (Parkway North)

  • End detour

Motorists on the Boulevard of the Allies in Oakland should consider using Craft Avenue to Fifth Avenue into downtown Pittsburgh as an alternate route. Motorists on Gist Street, Mitenberger Street, Van Braam Street, and Marion Street should use Fifth Avenue to downtown Pittsburgh.

No work will occur on southbound Boulevard of the Allies.

Crews from Swank Construction Company, LLC will conduct the work on this $7.08 million project.

Please use caution while driving through the area.  Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.
