The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) placed a radar-controlled speed display board today on Route 119 in Sandy Township, Clearfield County, to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limit. It will aid in curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving behavior.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting motorists that the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority will soon begin work to replace a railroad crossing on State Route 3006 (South Juniata Street) in Lewistown. The crossing is at the South Juniata Street/Water Street intersection. This work will require a closure of Water Street and will impact travel in the area. Work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 23 and is expected to last through Wednesday, September 29.

Prospective employees are invited to attend and apply at a job fair that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 2 will host soon in Centre County. During the job fair, applicants can learn about wintertime job opportunities that PennDOT offers. PennDOT staff will be on hand to help with on-line applications and attendees are encouraged to bring their résumé. At the job fair, PennDOT will conduct on the spot interviews for its Winter Maintenance Program and will administer a driving skills test for CDL drivers.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting drivers that a resurfacing project on Route 120 in Elk County will start Monday, September 20. The project will extend the life of approximately 3.5 miles of Route 120 in the City of St. Marys between the Chestnut and Michael streets intersection and the Benzinger Road intersection.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) alerted drivers that seal coating operations on two Mifflin County roads will begin Wednesday, September 15. Commonly known as “oil and chip,” this maintenance operation is used to extend the life of low-traffic-volume roads for another three to five years.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will soon host a public meeting/open house for its State College Area Connector Planning and Environmental Linkage (PEL) Study in southern Centre County. The purpose of the State College Area Connector Study is to identify existing and projected transportation needs within the study area. The study is being done by PennDOT in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Up-to-date information on the study can be found at www.PennDOT.gov/SCAC. Information on the study site will also be available at the public meeting/open house.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area motorists that a section of Route 1005 (North Main Street) continues to be closed just north of Burnham in Mifflin County, near Meadowfield Drive. The road is closed due to debris on the roadway caused by a wall failure.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting drivers to a daylight closure next week on a section of First Fork Road (Route 3003) in Sylvania Township, Potter County. The work location on First Fork Road is east of Austin, about 6 miles off Route 872. Work hours will be 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., September 13 through 17.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area drivers that a new bridge in Clearfield County is now open to traffic. The bridge spans Campbell Run on Route 3016 (Marron Road) between Route 729 and Route 3005 (Irvona Road) in Ferguson Township. Since mid-August, crews were working to replace the old bridge with a new box culvert. An average of almost 400 vehicles crosses the structure each day.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that its traveling workers’ memorial which pays tribute to the 90 PennDOT employees who have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1970 arrived in Centre County yesterday. The memorial will be on display at the Miles Township Fire Company, located at 102 Broad Street in Rebersburg, until Sunday, September 19.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area drivers that work to improve the Route 64/Route 550 (Nittany Valley Drive/Zion Road) intersection in Walker Township, Centre County will get underway on Monday, September 13. The work zone is located about 4 ½ miles north of Pleasant Gap.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that the contractor for a betterment project on Route 1004 (Woodland Road) intends to reopen the road to traffic in each direction later this afternoon. The project, which consists of waterline replacement, drainage improvements, sidewalk installation and full-depth reconstruction of the roadway between Route 322 in Lawrence Township and East Market Street in Clearfield Borough, currently restricts traffic from traveling toward the Clearfield Mall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) provided a roadwork update for drivers bound for Beaver Stadium this weekend. The Nittany Lions home opener against Ball State takes place Saturday, September 11, at 3:30 PM. Drivers may use the updated travel information when planning their trip(s) to the remaining slate of home games scheduled for September 18 and 25, October 2 and 23, and November 13 and 20.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) provided a beginning of September update today for its Local Interchange/Route 26 project in Centre County. The work zone, located along I-80 near the Bellefonte/161 interchange, may affect traffic flow.

Since mid-August, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has been working to replace a bridge in Clearfield County. The bridge spans Campbell Run on Route 3016 (Marron Road) between Route 729 and Route 3005 (Irvona Road) in Ferguson Township. Recent wet weather has hampered completion work and PennDOT now expects the bridge to remain closed through September 7. This is the second time PennDOT has postponed the opening of the new box culvert.
