Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of the Freeport Road (Route 1001) bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Sharpsburg Borough, Allegheny County, will occur Saturday and Sunday, February 24-25 weather permitting.
A closure of the Freeport Road bridge, located just west of the Highland Park Bridge interchange, will occur from 7 a.m. Saturday, February 24 through 5 p.m. Sunday, February 25. Crews will erect steel beams for a temporary pedestrian bridge. Traffic will be detoured via the Highland Park Bridge, Butler Street and the 62nd Street Bridge.
Replacement work on the bridge, which will require a 120 closure, will begin in mid-April. Additional information will be provided prior to the closure.
