Bridge in College Township to Reopen Tomorrow

09/11/2019

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area drivers that a bridge in College Township will reopen to traffic tomorrow, September 12.

The bridge spans Spring Creek on Route 3010 (Elmwood Street) in the Lemont area of Centre County. It has been closed for repair and preservation work since mid-July. With preservation work complete, PennDOT will remove the structure from the list of Centre County’s list of bridges in poor condition.

PennDOT expects the bridge to reopen before the end of the day tomorrow. Once the bridge is open to traffic, the detour that’s been in place during the closure will be lifted. The detour made use of Route 3011 (Pike Street) and Route 26.

The overall project has consisted of milling the asphalt overlay of the bridge, placement of new concrete deck and barrier, paving, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. Work on the Elmwood Street bridge was part of a bridge preservation project to address four structures in Centre County. HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $2.2 million preservation project.

The Elmwood Street bridge was constructed in 1959, is 57-feet long and is traveled by more than 3,300 vehicles daily.

Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
