Second Avenue Island Removal Next Week in Pittsburgh


Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing island removal work on Second Avenue in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Monday through Friday, February 24-28 weather permitting.

Island removal work requiring lane shifts on Second Avenue will occur between South 10th Street and the Birmingham Bridge. A single-lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained around-the-clock while the work occurs. 

Additionally, short-term traffic stoppages of five minutes or less will occur on Saturday, February 22 from 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. as the Port Authority conducts opposite direction vehicle clearance testing.

The work is part of the $7.17 million I-376 Parkway East Wall Rehabilitation project. The Joseph B. Fay Company is the prime contractor.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 950 traffic cameras.
