Route 4009 Babcock Boulevard Phase Change at Peoples Road Tuesday in Ross Township

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that Babcock Boulevard (Route 4009) in Ross Township, Allegheny County, will be reduced to a single lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal at the intersection with Peoples Road beginning Tuesday, June 25, weather permitting.

Crews will continue culvert replacement work at the intersection of Peoples Road and Babcock Boulevard with the construction phase change beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Crews will transition the westbound section of Babcock Boulevard approaching the intersection to a single-lane lane carrying bi-directional traffic. Peoples Road approaching the intersection will return to a single-lane in each direction. The spur ramp from Peoples Road to Babcock Boulevard will remain closed. All movements will be permitted at the intersection.

Flaggers will assist motorists through the intersection on Tuesday while temporary traffic signals are implemented. The configuration will remain in place through the end of November.

The current truck detour will remain in place.

Motorists should anticipate congestion issues, particularly the first week of the new configuration. Alternate routes should be considered.

This $2.74 million emergency repair is due to damage from flooding in July of 2018.  The Joseph B. Fay Company is the prime contractor.
