Multiple Bridge Closures in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing multiple bridges are closed this morning due to loose barges on the Monongahela River.

Currently, the Liberty, Smithfield, Fort Pitt, West End, and McKees Rocks bridges are closed. Bridge inspection crews are in route to determine if damage was sustained and if the bridges can reopen. It is anticipated that the inspection activities will take several hours.

Motorists can use the Glenwood, Birmingham, Hot Metal, South 10th Street, and I-79 Neville Island Bridges as alternatives.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 860 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
