The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is pleased to honor the Warren and Forest counties winners of the “Paint the Plow” safety outreach contest which promotes winter driving safety and fosters appreciation for high school art programs and student creativity.
Eisenhower High School won the “Fan Favorite” award, which was determined by online voting at www.penndot.gov. The plow depicts a winter landscape, red tractor with a knight (school mascot), and the message “Don’t Rush in Ice and Slush.” Youngsville and Warren high schools tied for honorable mention with the exact same number of votes.
Winner of the “Judges’ Pick” award was Youngsville High School. Youngsville’s plow depicts two eagles (school mascot) standing in snow with the text, “Don’t Rush in the Ice and Slush.”
The “Judges’ Pick” was determined through voting by PennDOT representatives.
During the winter weather season, the blades, as well as those painted by East Forest, West Forest, Sheffield, and Tidioute high school students, will be used to maintain state-owned roadways in Warren and Forest counties.
Members of the public can view photos the painted plow blades online at www.penndot.gov by clicking on the “Paint the Plow” icon. Pictures of each plow are posted in the Warren and Forest Plows photo album.
A new voting format was introduced for the 2019 “Paint the Plow” program. Members of the public picked their favorite plows through a survey linked on the PennDOT website. The plow photo that received the highest number of votes between November 17, 2019 and noon, November 25, 2019 was awarded the “Fan Favorite” honor.
“Paint the Plow” is a joint effort of PennDOT and area high schools. Students are invited to paint a plow blade with an original design based on a provided theme. The 2019 statewide theme is “Don’t Rush in Ice and Slush.” It was chosen to draw attention to the need for motorists to give themselves ample time for travel during wintry weather in order to arrive safely to their destination.
