The new bridge that carries Huntley Road (Route 3012) over Interstate 90 in Springfield Township, Erie County is expected to reopen Friday, October 11, 2019.
The former steel I-beam structure was closed and demolished in April. It has been classified as functionally obsolete.
A new concrete bridge with a higher clearance height for eastbound and westbound traffic on I-90 was built in its place. The bridge is used by approximately 150 vehicles daily, on average.
The replacement project is part of a two-year $37.6 million project to rebuild or repave more than 11 miles of I-90 in the western portion of Erie County. This year, preservation was done from mile marker 10 to mile marker 18 in Girard and Fairview townships. Work slated for the 2020 construction season includes the reconstruction 3.5 miles of I-90 – extending from the Ohio/Pennsylvania state line to the Route 6N exits in Springfield Township.
The project also includes the installation of a new right-of-way fence and cable median barrier, brush removal, updated guiderail and signs.
Work started in May 2019, and is expected to be completed by mid-November 2020.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
