PennDOT contractors are replacing the Allens Lane bridge that carries two lanes of traffic over SEPTA’s Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail Line in the West Mount Airy section of Philadelphia.
The Allens Lane Bridge has been closed between South Cresheim Road and North Cresheim Road since May 2019 when physical construction operations began. Since then the majority of the west abutment has been removed and the excavation for construction of the west abutment has been completed. Rebar has been installed, footing concrete has been placed and demolition of the east abutment has started. In the new year, the contractor will be constructing wingwalls and demolition of the east abutment will continue.
Allens Lane will be closed and detoured between South Cresheim Road and North Cresheim Road for bridge construction operations. The closure is expected to be in place through September 2020. During the closure, Allens Lane motorists will be directed to use Lincoln Drive, Wayne Avenue, Washington Avenue and Germantown Avenue. South Cresheim Road motorists will be additionally detoured over Emlen Street.
