Project Location

Overview

The project is located at the intersections of Easton Road and New Britain Road in Doylestown Township, Bucks County. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 6-0 identified the intersections as high crash locations.

To address the safety concerns, the existing two-way stop controlled intersections will be replaced with single-lane roundabouts. The roundabouts will reduce the number of conflict points with which road users interact. These improvements will provide a safe and efficient intersection that will serve existing traffic while allowing for more development in the area. Pedestrian and bicycle mobility will be increased at the intersection with ADA-compliant curb ramps and connections to the Doylestown Bike and Hike Trails. Bus stops will be improved for SEPTA Bus Route 55 and Doylestown Area Transit (DART) users.

Roundabouts Construction

PennDOT will begin construction on Monday, October 9, on a project to improve safety by constructing roundabouts at the intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road in Doylestown Township, Bucks County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Monday, October 9, through Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a weekday lane closure is scheduled on Easton Road at the intersection with New Britain Road/Sauerman Road.

Under this safety improvement project, PennDOT will construct two adjacent single-lane roundabouts at the bifurcated intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road. The roundabouts will include new drainage and sidewalks; ADA-compliant crossings; bicycle facilities, lighting, and full-depth pavement reconstruction.

The design will include transit facilities to accommodate SEPTA and DART routes. There are existing trails to the east and west of the project that will be connected as part of this project. The proposed trail connection will circle the roundabouts connecting Triangle Park and the Heritage Gateway Center at Doylestown to adjacent residences and businesses.

The project aims to reduce overall crashes at the intersection; reduce vehicle speeds; and improve bicycle and pedestrian mobility and safety near the intersection.

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia, PA is the general contractor on the $3.9 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
