Project Overview

The Salina Bridge Preservation project is located in Bell Township, Westmoreland County.  The bridge built in 1906, is a 669-foot long, three-span, pin-connected, steel through-truss structure spanning the Kiskiminetas River and Norfolk Southern Railroad.  Numerous repairs have been made to the 10-ton posted bridge throughout the years and now more permanent repairs will be made to extend the life of the structure.  The scope of work includes full encasement of the beam ends at both abutments and both piers, minor modifications to the roller nests, bridge deck repairs, and minor approach roadway work on the far approach (Edmond).  The work will be performed within the existing Right-of-Way.  Traffic Control will be a full detour for an estimated duration of 4 weeks.

The project will follow the below schedule:

  • Project Let: August 20th, 2020
  • Start of physical work: October 5th, 2020
  • Detour removed / Open to traffic: October 30th, 2020
  • Project Compete: March 2021
