Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 12-0 and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have advanced the Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project (LVTIP) Section 1 (SR 981, Section Q20) to the Final Design phase. An Open House Public Meeting is planned to update the community about the project. PennDOT’s Project Team will present information about the final design alignment, construction phasing, potential traffic restrictions and detours, and the project schedule. All meeting materials and feedback opportunities will also be available on the project website: www.laurelvalleyproject.com.

Washington County Acting Maintenance Manager, J. Scott Finch, announced the following tentative work plan for the week of January 27, 2020. All maintenance activities are conducted on a weather-permitting basis. Motorists should drive with caution throughout all work areas and be alert for signed work zones requiring the usage of headlights.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that a section of Route 22 in Smith Township between Route 18 and Maple Grove Road will occur so that the beams from the bridge carrying Route 4007 (Bavington Road) can be removed. The detour will use Steubenville Pike.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that a section of Route 4036 (Tony Row Road) between Route 4038 (Quaker Church Road) and Church Road in Perry Township will be closed and detoured starting on February 3 through February 16. This culvert replacement work is weather dependent, so the dates may change.

Washington County Acting Maintenance Manager, J. Scott Finch, announced the following tentative work plan for the week of January 20, 2020. All maintenance activities are conducted on a weather-permitting basis. PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that a section of Route 22 in Smith Township between Route 18 and Maple Grove Road will occur so that the beams from the bridge carrying Route 4007 (Bavington Road) can be removed. The detour will use Steubenville Pike. The closure is weather dependent and is currently scheduled to occur between 8 PM and 6 AM on January 17 (tentatively westbound) and again on January 18 (tentatively eastbound). These dates may change if needed.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that crews will be doing geotechnical borings on a section of Route 906 (2nd Street) between Kline Street and Mechanics Street in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County and they may experience minor traffic pattern changes starting January 8, 2020 at 8:00 AM and tentatively lasting until January 16, 2020 at 4:00 PM.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists of ramp closures on Interstate 70 at Exit 51 (West Newton/Mount Pleasant Exit). The West Bound on and off ramps will be closed starting January 15, 2020 at 8:00 AM and tentatively lasting until August 2020.

As preliminary information is gathered for a future road project, PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that workers will be present at the Interstate 70 / Route 51 Interchange area during week of January 7, 2020. Starting on Tuesday, January 7 between 8 AM and 2 PM crews will be visible on Route 51 near the interchange with Interstate 70 in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that on Thursday, December 5th, crews will be performing a detailed bridge inspection of the Smithton High Level Bridge on Interstate 70 that spans the Youghiogheny River in Rostraver and South Huntingdon townships, Westmoreland County. This will complete the previous inspection efforts started in September but were delayed pending coordination with the railroad.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that they will encounter single lane restrictions on westbound Interstate 70 between Route 519 and the Interstate 70 / 79 South Junction on Sunday between 8:00 AM and 3 PM.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that during the week of November 11 through 15, new bridge beams will be set onto the bridge that carries Route 381 over the Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle. Motorist will encounter intermittent traffic stoppages during daylight hours, starting at 9 am that will last no longer than 15 minutes at a time.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that they will encounter a closure and detour on a section of Pikes Peak Road Road in South Franklin Township between Grove Road and Bells Lake Road starting on November 11 through December 20 so that a slide can be repaired. A marked detour will use Route 18 and Grove Road.
