The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is pleased to honor the District 12 regional winners of the “Paint the Plow” safety outreach contest which promotes winter driving safety and fosters appreciation for high school art programs and student creativity.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that on Thursday, December 5th, crews will be performing a detailed bridge inspection of the Smithton High Level Bridge on Interstate 70 that spans the Youghiogheny River in Rostraver and South Huntingdon townships, Westmoreland County. This will complete the previous inspection efforts started in September but were delayed pending coordination with the railroad.

All maintenance activities are conducted on a weather-permitting basis. Motorists should drive with caution throughout all work areas and be alert for signed work zones requiring the usage of headlights.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that they will encounter single lane restrictions on westbound Interstate 70 between Route 519 and the Interstate 70 / 79 South Junction on Sunday between 8:00 AM and 3 PM.

Washington County Acting Maintenance Manager, J. Scott Finch, announced the following tentative work plan for the week of November 11, 2019. PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that during the week of November 11 through 15, new bridge beams will be set onto the bridge that carries Route 381 over the Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle. Motorist will encounter intermittent traffic stoppages during daylight hours, starting at 9 am that will last no longer than 15 minutes at a time.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that they will encounter a closure and detour on a section of Pikes Peak Road Road in South Franklin Township between Grove Road and Bells Lake Road starting on November 11 through December 20 so that a slide can be repaired. A marked detour will use Route 18 and Grove Road.

PennDOT District 12 would like to advise motorists that they will encounter a closure and detour on a section of Manifold Road in South Strabane Township between Berry Road and Locust Avenue starting on October 25 at 6:30 AM through December 6 at 3:00 PM so that a slide can be repaired. A marked detour will use Route 19, Interstate 70, and Locust Avenue.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is currently developing plans for the replacement of the bridge carrying Route 1059 over Mingo Creek in Nottingham Township and will host a Public Plans Display from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on October 16, 2019, at the Nottingham Township Municipal Building located at 909 Sugar Run Road, Eighty Four, PA 15330. Interested residents can attend at this time.

A utility contractor will pull cable across Interstate 79 Northbound on October 17, 2019 starting at 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM on October 18. In order to do this, there will be a single lane closure on Interstate 79 between Meadowlands and the Houston Exit during this time.

PennDOT District 12 would like to update motorists on the approximately 31 miles state roadways that will be resurfaced in Westmoreland County this construction season. Because each roadway is different, these daylight projects may include milling, base repair and placing an asphalt overlay. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers when necessary and the project depends on the weather conditions. Tentative locations are approximate. Start dates will be updated as they get closer.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will conduct a plan display to inform the public of the proposed project for replacement of two structures carrying Moyer Road (T-907) over Mounts Creek. Work will consist of replacing each structure with a separate single-span prestressed concrete box beam on integral abutments, full depth approach roadway work on the approaches of both bridges, new signing and pavement markings, upgraded guide rail, mill and overlay between the two bridges and other miscellaneous construction. The project will begin at approximately the intersection of Coalbrook Road and Moyer Road to the intersection of Greenhouse Road and Moyer Road.
