New Castle Road Bridge Replacement Project in Mercer County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a plans display regarding the replacement of the New Castle Road (Route 2001) bridge over Indian Run in Wilmington Township, Mercer County.

The bridge is located on New Castle Road near the intersections with Rodgers Road and the Indian Run Road.

The project will include removing the existing steel I-beam bridge and replacing it with a prestressed concrete box beam bridge. Work will also include waterproofing, paving, and guiderail updates. It is expected to start in April 2020 and last two months.

Plans for the project will be displayed be held from September 3 to 12, 2019 at the Wilmington Township building
35 Auction Road, New Wilmington, PA 16142. The township building is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Tuesday through Thursday.

The work will require a detour, which will be posted using Old Mercer Road (Route 1005), Route 208, and Route 19.

The existing bridge was built in 1910 and is classified as poor condition. Approximately 825 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
