Route 19 Roadway and
Bridge Replacement Project
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an online plans display regarding the Route 19 roadway and bridge replacement project in East Lackawannock Township and Mercer Borough, Mercer County.
The project includes replacing the current bridge that carries Route 19 over Neshannock Creek Tributary in East Lackawannock Township. The current structure will be replaced with a concrete box culvert. Work will also include improvements to the roadway shoulders, and upgrades to the guiderail and drainage. During this portion of the work, traffic will be maintained through the use of a temporary roadway
near the existing bridge.
The bridge was built in 1920 and is classified as being in poor condition. It is used by approximately 6,200 vehicles daily, on average.
The roadway portion of the project will include resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation the Route 19 from the I-80 ramps in East Lackawannock Township to the intersection with Coolsprings Street in Mercer Borough. Work will also include shoulder widening, and updated drainage, pavement markings, signing, and ADA curb ramps. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.
Work is expected to take place during the 2021 construction season.
In accordance with Governor Wolf's COVID-19 mitigation efforts, in plans display will be held online only. A digital version of the information will be available to view online from April 22, 2020, to May 22, 2020.
