The intersection improvement project at the Big I will include the construction of a multi-lane roundabout, along with concrete curbs, sidewalks, and upgrades to the drainage, highway lighting and signs.
A navigation video is available by scrolling to the bottom of the page and on the PennDOT YouTube channel.
Work got underway the week of April 1, 2019. It should be completed, and the roundabout open to all traffic by October 25, 2019.
The contractor is S.E.T., Inc. of Lowellville, Ohio. The contract cost is $6,126,811.45, which is to be paid entirely by federal funds.
Updates on the progress of the construction were provided periodically through this page and on Twitter @511PAErie by following #BigIRoundabout.
A flag raising ceremony conducted by the Veterans of the Vietnam War Post #52 in Meadville was held November 8, 2019. This event served also as the official ceremony marking the opening of the roundabout.
Here is the presentation given December 2018, which includes a map of the Route 98.
A press release announcing the start of the project is available on the www.penndot.gov/District1.
