Harrisburg, PA – Weather permitting, an operation will be underway this weekend to apply an epoxy overlay on the bridge that carries Route 283 over the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks just west of the interchange with Route 741 in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County. The operation will run from 9 PM on Friday, August 25, to 5 AM on Monday, August 28. During this time over the weekend, traffic will be limited to a single lane in each direction over the bridge.
This work is part of a larger project that began last June to repair nine bridges on Route 283. PennDOT has contracted with Deblin, Inc. of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, to make the repairs at a cost of nearly $1.4 million. The other bridge locations are in Mount Joy Township and include eastbound Route 283 over Cloverleaf Road, westbound Route 283 over Schwanger Road, and Route 283 in both directions over Route 743, Beverly Road, and the Conewago Recreational Trail. No bridge work will occur over the Labor Day holiday weekend. However, after the holiday weekend, motorists should be prepared to encounter weekend lane restrictions until an epoxy overlay has been applied to all of these bridges.
Motorists are asked to be alert to this weekend operation, to obey the work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zone – for their safety as well as for the safety of the construction crews.
