Tomorrow, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), North Central Highway Safety Network, state and local police will be conducting roadside inspections on commercial vehicles as part of a two-week training class for municipal officer to become certified in inspection of commercial vehicle drivers.
The training class is part of a new Coordinating Resources to Advance Safer Highways (CRASH) Pilot Program in Lehigh County, which focuses on reducing commercial motor vehicle crashes. CRASH aims to utilize existing resources, target high truck crash areas and develop a comprehensive plan to reduce incidents.
Participating agencies include: Upper Macungie, Emmaus, Allentown, South Whitehall and Whitehall police departments, Pennsylvania State Police, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Media is invited to observe roadside inspections while training is in progress.
