The Pennsylvania departments of Transportation (PennDOT) and General Services (DGS) today announced that the Delaware Water Gap Welcome Center located at I-80 West, Exit 310 in Monroe County will close on November 28 for approximately six months while the facility undergoes renovations.
The $2.5 million project covers interior and exterior renovations including: Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades; new bathroom equipment; heating, cooling and ventilation upgrades; updated wiring and electrical equipment; parking lot upgrades; exterior and rooftop drainage and repairs to the building’s façade.
The project is scheduled to take approximately six months to complete and the facility is expected to be open by Memorial Day 2018.
While the renovations are underway, the facility will be closed to public access. PennDOT has identified Exits 309 (U.S. 209/PA 447) and 308 (East Stroudsburg) as the nearest locations for restrooms, food, gas and other amenities.
PennDOT manages 14 Welcome Centers statewide. The centers provide tourism information, and maintain rest area facilities, vending machines and picnic areas. Most centers are open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., including most holidays.
