Harrisburg, PA– In honor of Earth Day, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Acting Secretary Patrick McDonnell and Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Leslie S. Richards call on Pennsylvanians to "Pick it up, PA" and look for opportunities to participate in cleanup activities across the state.
Everyone can make a difference when it comes to keeping Pennsylvania beautiful. There are events taking place all over the state, not just on Earth Day, but throughout the year to help pick up trash, plant trees, and clean up our neighborhoods," said McDonnell. "It's a great opportunity to get some dirt under your fingernails and make your own part of Pennsylvania more beautiful."
The Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful website is constantly updating with cleanup activities for all ages at http://www.gacofpa.org/great-american-cleanup-of-pa-find-an-event/. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is sponsored by DEP and PennDOT.
Litter detracts from the beauty and appeal of our wonderful state, and we simply count on many volunteers to step forward and help us with the ongoing challenge of cleaning up our roadsides," Richards said. "We are very encouraged by the turnout of volunteers. Nearly 700 events have been registered thus far for the Pick-It-Up-PA campaign. We encourage you to visit GACoPA to find an event to join or register your own."
